The Gazette reported that, thanks to low gas prices and a strong economy, there will be more tourists than ever hitting the roads and traveling this weekend.

If you want to celebrate the lives of those who have fallen for our everyday freedoms and make the most of the endless things to do this weekend, then here are a few events and suggestions of ways you can pay your respects and enjoy this fun-filled holiday long-weekend. What’s more, they’re nearly all located in-town, so you don’t have to fret the frantic highway frenzy that’s projected to ensue.

Memorial Day Commemoration

This three-hour event will include commemorations by the Pikes Peak Chapter of the Son’s of the American Revolution and the 10th U.S. Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, followed by a butterfly release at the Historic Evergreen Chapel and interactive displays. This event is completely FREE and open to everyone who’d like to participate. There will be light refreshments available and all donations collected will benefit the restoration work at the Evergreen Cemetery. Watch history come to life through reenactments and see a taste of history explored this Memorial Day weekend.

Territory Days in Old Colorado

From feasts to music and vendors to displays, Territory Days is one of the most-anticipated events of the year in Colorado Springs! This year’s list of events include over 180 vendors, live music and entertainment, activities for kids, a petting zoo, Air Force displays, performances by Native American dancers, and the list goes on and on.

This popular tradition has been happening for years in Old Colorado City. With fantastic live performers, vendor booths, tasty food and drink, as well as crafts, and other activities, Territory Days is a popular family destination for Memorial Day celebrations. Meadowgrass Music Festival in Black Forest

Enjoy an eclectic mix of music genres with everything from rock to indie, folk to blues, and everything in between. Nestled in the lush forests of Black Forest, this annual festival draws music enthusiasts from all over Colorado for three days of great sounds, beautiful views, and delicious food vendors.

Over 20 eclectic bands will play at the MeadowGrass Music Festival. This is the 9th annual event, often known as Colorado’s most wide-ranging music festivals. With local artists and national bands, you can enjoy varied performances all weekend long. With workshops, kids activities, and yoga, you certainly won’t run out of things to do. The festival runs rain or shine, so make sure you bring appropriate gear and clothing.
