25th Annual Emma Crawford Coffin Races—October 26
Halloween fun starts early in downtown Manitou Springs on October 26 as the Emma Crawford Coffin Races return for a 25th year! The spooky tale of Emma Crawford inspired this annual event. According to legend, she moved to the community in 1889 searching in vain for physical healing. She was buried on Red Mountain, but heavy rains over the years dislodged her coffin, which ‘raced' to the bottom of the mountain.
With only portions of her remains recovered, it's believed she haunts the region to this day. Events kick off around noon with the parade of coffins and costumed impersonators of Ms. Crawford, and the wild and wacky coffin races are the highlight of the day. There will be a sidewalk sale going on hosted by several local businesses, so plan to do a bit of shopping before heading home.
Go ahead and mark these fun, family friendly events on your October calendar to enjoy some of the best entertainment in Colorado Springs.
