Great Neighborhoods Near Fort Carson

Fort Carson is quite the feature in Colorado Spring's overall landscape. In many ways it's like a city all of its own, sandwiched between the soaring Cheyenne Mountains and the Interstate 25 highway.

So, if you find yourself stationed at this city-within-a-city, you'll probably also be looking to relocate to one of its outer suburbs. Well...you're in luck.

The areas around Fort Carson offer a diverse mix of affordable homes, family-friendly amenities, and a convenient commute times. If that sounds like what you're looking for, then read on for information on 3 great neighborhoods near Fort Carson.

Stratmoor

The residential community of Stratmoor lies southeast of downtown Colorado Springs along the I-25 Highway, just a bit north-northeast of Fort Carson.

This neighborhood has a few things going for it, including a fantastic location and a lot of well-established properties.

Expect to find many mid-to-late 20th century homes with relatively spacious yards and very reasonable price tags.

Stratmoor is #1 on our list for sheer ease of access. The neighborhood itself is built around the Academy Boulevard and Ronald Reagan Highway intersection, so destinations in almost every direction are practically at your doorstep.

For example, starting at the northern end of Stratmoor, and driving to the middle of Fort Carson would take less than 10 minutes. Unless you're living on the grounds of the base, it won't get much better than that.

And downtown Colorado Springs is only 10 minutes away along the I-25 heading north.

Security-Widefield

This community is a little further south and to the east of Stratmoor, across Highway 87. This puts it directly east of Fort Carson, although a little further away than Stratmoor.

As with Stratmoor, Security-Widefield is mostly residential, with a lot of mid-to-late century homes. Affordable, well kept, classic.

And, if you're wondering about the hyphenated name, "Security" refers to the portion north of Fontaine Boulevard, and "Widefield" to the southern portion.

Together you're still getting some amazing access and transport options, including proximity to Colorado Springs Airport a little way to the northeast. But Stratmoor has a few extras thrown in...

One highlight is the abundance of natural, undeveloped, or rural land surrounding the area. Fountain Creek runs along Secuirty-Widefield's southwest edge, and the Bluestem Prairie Open Space around Big Johnson Reservoir lies to the east.

And beyond that? Just wide open spaces as far as the eye can see.

Another great feature of this neighborhood is the abundance of schools. Really - there are so many schools. And the local school district also runs the Widefield Recreation Center where you can enjoy swimming, volleyball, baseball, soccer, tennis, a waterpark, or the gym.

Northeast Colorado Springs

When you are looking for a more affordable neighborhood close to Fort Carson, it's time to take a look at Northeast Colorado Springs. There is a vast network of amenities to enjoy, and public transportation is easy to access. 

Northeast Colorado Springs is about 15 miles north of Fort Carson, making for an easy commute along interstate 25. 

If you love skiing, there's plenty of it in the area when the weather gets cold. Enjoy the amazing mountain views while living in a city atmosphere where you can head out to dinner at one of the many restaurants.

Fountain

Fountain is your chance to get that small-town feeling in or around Colorado Springs, and near Fort Carson in particular.

About 3 miles south of Widefield, along the Highway 87 and Fountain Creek, you should expect a 15 minute commute to central Fort Carson. Not as great as some other areas, but you get a lot in return for that extra 5 minutes on the road.

For one, the views of the surrounding bluffs and hills are better. And despite the rapid growth in the surrounding area, Fountain has managed to preserve the close-knit community feel at its core.

Either way, whether you want to get in on the quaint, tree-lined streets, or one of the newer developments, the desirability of this area is only set to increase - so get it while you can.
