Top 6 Places to Watch the Leaves Change Colors in Colorado

The seasons are changing with the start of Fall, and it is time to go explore some of Colorado's most beautiful scenery. From vibrant golds, to burnt oranges, to brilliant reds, Colorado's natural beauty always shines brightly during the Fall season. For the best timing to watch the leaves change, please check here: Fall Folliage Map

Now let's dive into the six absolute best places to watch the leaves change in Colorado. Happy leaf peeping

1. Teller County - Mueller State Park

Located off Highway 67 about 7 miles south of Divide, this popular year-round destination, Mueller State Park, cannot be overlooked Be prepared to hike and leaf peep in over 5000 acres of park grounds.

2. Teller County - Highway 67 from Divide to Cripple Creek

You will see plenty of yellow aspens and cottonwood trees as you embark on one of the most convenient drives from Colorado Springs.

3. El Paso County - Pikes Peak Highway

This 19-mile paved road from Cascade to the summit of Pikes Peak is a classic fall drive, but don't forget this drive isn't free. About 6.5 miles into the drive, Crystal Reservoir is *THE PLACE* to check out fall colors and admire Pikes Peak. Make your reservation, here: https://tinyurl.com/crwhxp7m

4. Pueblo & Custer counties - Highway 165 from Rye to San Isabel

This drive is a little more than 10 miles, and it is a great way to explore lots of Aspen trees along Highway 165, with plenty additional fall colors around San Isabel Lake.

5. Maroon Bells

The Maroon Bells are considered a top leaf-peeping spot in all of Colorado, and one of the most photographed places in the state. Note: You will want to get a paid parking reservation at Maroon Lake Trailhead ahead of time. The round-trip RFTA shuttle fare is $16 & one-way downhill shuttle tickets from the Maroon Bells Scenic Area to Aspen Highlands are $10.

6. Independence Pass

Independence Pass is the second-highest paved mountain pass (over 12,000 feet at the summit) that connects Twin Lakes to Aspen and it is VERY narrow and curvy, and very beautiful.
