In the midst of the cool winter season, Colorado Springs is still jumping with action beyond the glorious snow-drenched slopes. All throughout this tight-knit mountain community, December is a month filled with fun activities and events that are certain to delight attendees. Here are some of the best December events in Colorado Springs, CO.
No Man's Land Film Festival
The No Man's Land Film Festival is a highlight event for those who desire to connect with others in pursuit of gender equality amid the global population. This annual Rocky Mountain film festival is a collaboration for feminine adventurers who share a vision and passion for both adventure and womanhood. This year's films have yet to be announced, but with their partnership with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, the lineup is sure to be innovative and creative.
Cost: Free for UCCS faculty and students, $10 for other attendees
The Annual Festival of Lights Parade
The first weekend in December, downtown Colorado Springs literally springs to life in a truly festive holiday fashion with the arrival of the Annual Festival of Lights Parade. Droves of impressive floats that took thousands of hours of love and labor to create will stroll down Tejon Street in between a variety of local marching bands, singers, sketch artists, local community organizations, city officials and much more.
Parade goers are invited and encouraged to bring along snacks and thermoses of warm cider or cocoa to enjoy while soaking in the seasonal sounds and glittering lights. There will be at least five designated parking areas within a block of the parade's route, so be sure not use the hooded meters during the event to prevent ticketing or towing.
With 30,000 square feet of fun, entertainment and 100,000 chocolate samples for consideration, the Holiday Chocolate Festival is a must-do December event in Colorado Springs. Chocolates are the starring attraction, but the action on the main stage and the various activity stations and vendor stops provide ‘palate breaks' between sampling and buying sweet treats.
Exhibitors will offer candies, cookies, truffles, brownies, hand-crafted sauces and fascinating drinks, while vendors offer up non-food related gifts perfect for holiday shopping. Typically, goodies include striking jewelry, artwork, ornaments, one-of-a-kind clothing and all kinds of gift-ready wares.
Cost: $10 for kids 12 and under; taste tickets: $10/dozen; VIP pass: $50
New Year's Eve with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra
New Year's Eve with the Philharmonic is the unofficial musical performance to ring out the old and welcome in another glorious year in Colorado Springs. Sponsored by UCHealth Memorial, the local philharmonic orchestra keeps New Years festivities rolling with impressive Broadway performances starring a superstar of the stage, Joshua Franklin. Make reservations early for the best seating, as this special one-night-only event sells out annually.
Whether seeing films, watching parades, or sampling treats and shopping are on the agenda this December in Colorado Springs, these events are definitely worth noting on the holiday calendar.
